US sports legend Bo Jackson suffers from a strange illness

Bo Jackson is ill. Doctors have been trying to figure out where his hiccups are coming from for months. The US sports great himself has already tried to get rid of him in a strange way.

Former baseball and football pro Bo Jackson has been suffering from chronic hiccups for almost a year and is now set to undergo surgery. He made the announcement during his appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on British radio station WJOX-FM on Wednesday.

He has had the complaints since July 2022, he explained and further: “I will have a medical procedure carried out at the end of this week to try to remedy the situation.” The hiccups even prevented him from attending his former teammate Frank Thomas’ statue dedication in April.

“I’m busy sitting in the hospital with doctors, putting lights on my throat and trying to figure out why I’m having the hiccups,” he explained.

“Smelled Porcupine”

When Jackson was asked if any conventional treatments hadn’t worked, he replied directly, “Damn, no. I’ve done everything: scared myself, hung upside down, drank water and smelled a porcupine’s butt.” None of the above attempts worked.

Jackson retired from playing in 1994. He previously spent nine seasons in MLB with the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox and the California Angels. In the NFL, he played for the Los Angeles Raiders for four years. The 60-year-old is one of the few athletes who managed to be active in two of the major US leagues – and play at the highest level.
