Despite a good start to the first inning – bases loads, no outs – the Vermins never found their way into the game and ended up losing 23:3. In particular, the pitchers and outfielders couldn’t cope with Cologne’s new pitch – a pure clay pitch(!) – so that the Cardinals were able to use their home field advantage. The unusual mobile mound made things difficult for the pitchers from Wesseling; the outfielders struggled with the extremely fast balls.
Nevertheless, the mood in the team is still good, and next weekend in Bonn – then again as usual on grass – the first win of the season should be targeted.
