Tyler Wells pitched seven innings of one-hit ball and the Baltimore Orioles relied on home runs from Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 on Saturday.

Wells (3-1) had a career-high eight strikeouts and walked two. The only man to reach base against the right-hander in the first six innings was Carlos Santana, who did so with a clear single to left field leading off the second inning.

Wells then retired 17 in a row and walked Santana with two outs in the seventh. Jack Suwinski also walked, before Miguel Andújar found a 2-1 pitch to send the ball deep into right field.

But there, the Venezuelan Anthony Santander jumped to make an excellent catch in front of the fence.

Wells punched in the air and walked off the mound after his big 96-pitch outing.

Yennier Cano gave up a double in the eighth inning and Felix Bautista allowed a single in the ninth, before striking out all three of his opponents to complete his three-hit run and earn his 10th save in 13 attempts.

Rurschman homered in the first off Roansy Contreras (3-4) and Henderson homered in the second.

For the Pirates, the Dominicans Santana 3-1, Andújar 3-0. The Venezuelan Tucupita Maracano 1-1.

For the Orioles, the Venezuelan Santander 4-0. The Dominican Jorge Mateo 3-0.
