Dunja Hayali has been moderating the “Aktuelle Sportstudio” for five years. Now the moderator is leaving the traditional show and devoting herself to other tasks. Her sports studio career once began with a flood of cancellations.

Dunja Hayali says goodbye to the “Aktuelle Sportstudio”. The 48-year-old journalist moderated the sport classic for the last time on Saturday, as ZDF confirmed on Thursday. Since its debut in August 2018, Hayali has performed 40 times.

“It’s a dream come true: ‘The current sports studio’ has been the sports program on German television for me for decades,” Hayali said five years ago on the occasion of its premiere. Her first guest at the time was football coach Friedhelm Funkel, after Hayali said ex-national player Mesut Özil and then national coach Joachim Löw had canceled. The FB officials Oliver Bierhoff and Reinhard Grindel didn’t want to come either.

It is not yet clear who Hayali will interview in her last show (from 11 p.m.). The focus of the issue will be the 32nd match day of the Bundesliga with a detailed report on the evening game between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach. The World Cup game of the German national ice hockey team against Finland will also be a topic.

Hayali stays with ZDF

Hayali, who studied at the German Sport University and was a sports presenter for Deutsche Welle for nine years, has been a permanent member of the presenting team at “heute journal” since February. In addition, she has been working for the “Morgenmagazin” since 2007, which she presents together with Mitri Sirin, 51. In addition to her work on TV, Hayali has been campaigning against racism and hate on the Internet for years.
