Tinder leaves Russia citing its commitment to human rights

Washington, United States. Match Groupdating app matrix Tinderdecided to leave Russiamore than a year after the invasion of Ukraine caused several international companies to close or suspend their Russian operations.

Match Group said Monday it will leave Russia before the June 30th. “We are committed to the protection of human rights,” the company reported when announcing its decision.

The Texas-based firm announced the news in its annual impact report, a summary of its progress on social responsability and environmental.

“Our brands are taking steps to restrict access to their services in Russia and will complete their withdrawal from the Russian market by June 30, 2023,” it said.

Most of the big western companies ended or suspended their operations in protest of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, while the Chinese companies expand their presence.

Russia, who seeks reduce your dependency of the West, has propped up its domestic technology sector in recent years.

Tinder’s departure also comes as Russia has tightened laws for regulate the technology sectorin a context of growing political repression.
