Timo Cavelius demands Olympic champion – German Judo Federation

Our two athletes fought their first fight in parallel for a while.

Timo Cavelius (PTSV Hof – Bayern) was the first to hit the mat and was accompanied by his home coach Sebastian Seidl. He immediately put pressure on Adam Kopecky from the Czech Republic and dominated the fight. The result was two Shido for the Czech. Still, he had to be constantly on guard to make sure he didn’t make a mistake. Despite several attempts, he did not get a rating. Then, eight seconds before the end, a dangerous situation with the approach of a victim throw, which he was just able to fend off and prevented a scoring. It went to the Golden Score. After a good minute, Timo Cavelius caught his opponent with a sumi-gaeshi and won with ippon.

It is the first fight of these World Championships that one of our men has won. Women’s assistant coach, Erica Miranda, felt relieved: “It’s sooo important for the whole team.”

His next opponent is Guilherme Schimidt from Brazil. The two have already fought each other in Paris in the same round and Timo Cavelius won that fight. It should give him confidence!

It worked this time too. Timo Cavelius fought with concentration and had the stronger part in the fight. However, there were dangerous situations on both sides that he was always able to solve well. Both had been penalized for pulldowns throughout the fight and with 15 seconds left Timo Cavelius landed a waza-ari. He climbed in further on the ground and the last few seconds ticked by.

Now he is in the next fight against the Olympic champion Takanori Nagase from Japan.

He’s putting up a very good fight and could have won. Overall, he fought and defended cleverly – and he made good use of two situations to give the Japanese Shido. In the golden score, however, after almost three minutes there was a situation in which the Japanese got through with O-Soto-gari and Timo Cavelius still lost after a very good fight. He retires one lap too early to still be fighting for positions.

Dominic Ressel (TSV Kronshagen – Schleswig-Holstein) started his first fight in the last minute of Timo Cavelius’ fight. The teammates “split” to cheer for both of them. But in the end it wasn’t that much use. After a minute and a half he fell on Ippon after both struggled for balance. With that, Dominic Ressel is eliminated from the competition.
