With its own productions, called “Originals”, the video-on-demand service Apple TV+, launched at the end of 2019, wants to compete with the top dogs Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Sky and other streaming platforms.

Here we show what the service currently costs, how many people a subscription can be shared with and what Apple has to offer in terms of films and series.

How much does Apple TV+ cost in Germany?

At the start Apple TV+ cost 4.99 euros per month in Germany. After the price increase in October 2022, you now pay for the monthly subscription 6,99 Euro. New customers will be charged the amount after a seven-day trial period.

Apple TV+ is available in different offers. Depending on which offer you choose, the price you pay for Apple’s streaming service changes: If you buy an Apple device, Apple TV+ is free for the first three months. The streaming service is also included in Apple One subscriptions, in which the hardware and software manufacturer combines several services. The all-in-one subscription currently costs EUR 16.95 per month for individuals, EUR 22.95 for families and EUR 31.95 in the premium version. Students who have an Apple Music subscription (currently €5.99 per month) will have free access to Apple TV+.

Can I share my Apple TV+ subscription with others?

Yes. According to Apple, it is possible to share your subscription with “up to five family members”. Thanks to the so-called family release, up to six users can access a single subscription. All users can access the content with their own Apple ID on their own device. This means that six streams can be viewed simultaneously via one account.

Series and films: the offer

Apple does not see itself as a competitor to other streaming providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Co. Most of the in-house productions are to be offered, with which the existing Apple TV offer is to be expanded and added value is to be offered.

The manageable range is to be supplemented monthly with new “Originals”. These can then be viewed in 4K HDR/Dolby Vision, with most titles also offering Dolby Atmos sound. Anyone using an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Mac can download episodes or films and watch them offline.

How can I use the Apple TV+ offer?

Anyone who already uses an Apple device and has an Apple ID can use the offer on their own device. Compatible devices include:
