This is how the ATP ranking remains after the Rome Masters 2023: number 1, classification and points

It’s Monday and it’s time to update the ATP ranking. The one that officially returns Carlitos Alcaraz to the top of the tennis world. Given the absence of Djokovic in the Masters 1,000 in Rome, it was worth it for the Murcian to set foot on the track to recover the status of leader of the list, which he had not enjoyed since last March, and with which he will reach the second Grand Slam of the year, Roland Garros.

It is the third time that Charly commands the index. Apart from the one mentioned in March, which lasted an ephemeral week, he did it for another 19 between 2022 and the beginning of this year, from September 19 to January 16. Therefore, he has already accumulated 23 weeks, with which he continues to be the 16th player who has held the position for the longest time, 17 still behind the next, the Romanian Nastase.

He will be escorted from now on at number two by the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who with his victory this Sunday in the Masters 1,000 in Rome, the first he has scored in the Italian capital and on clay, also overtakes Djokovic. The man he defeated in the final at the Foro Italico, the Danish Holger Rune, also has something to celebrate, reaching sixth place at Rublev’s expense, the best ranking of his so far short career.

“If it was 3, I would definitely play against Alcaraz or Novak (Djokovic) if I’m in the semifinal. You definitely have one of them in your giveaway. I guess it’s better to be number 2 and have the chance. Carlos and I don’t play safely before the final, and Novak maybe has a 50% chance that he won’t be in my team”, Medvedev assessed his promotion after winning in Rome.
