Abensberg, Stadt. The young judoka from TSV Abensberg celebrated success at the 36th international Budapest Cup. Four girls and three boys competed for medals in the Hungarian capital. The young athletes were looked after by trainer Radu Ivan.

The tournament is one of the largest youth competitions in Europe. Activists from Israel, Japan and Australia also showed their skills in Budapest. “The starting fields were correspondingly strong,” says Radu Ivan. Among the boys, Magnus Trauner (up to 73 kilograms) and Alexander Bürger (up to 60 kilograms) each won their first fight, but were then eliminated.

Eduard Bulinger (up to 66 kilograms) had to admit defeat in the first round. The girls Emma Listl (up to 63 kg), Christina Fischer (up to 48 kg), Dimitra Sioka (up to 70 kg) and Jolina Reinhold (up to 52 kg) started almost simultaneously. The coaching turned out to be correspondingly difficult for coach Ivan.

It happened in quick succession: the quartet fought its way through to the semi-finals. Emma Listl was initially defeated, but secured bronze. Dimitra Sioka, Christina Fischer and Jolina Reinhold advanced to the finals. Sioka and Fischer each took silver medals in their weight classes. Reinhold, the youngest Abensberger at the age of 13, didn’t miss a beat and won the tournament in the U18 age group. TSV Abensberg took first place in the U18 girls’ overall ranking.

“I’m proud of the performance of my protégés,” said Radu Ivan after the tournament.
