The Integration Games were inaugurated in Puerto Madryn

With the presence of the president of Chubut Deportes Gustavo Hernández, the secretary of Education, Culture and Sports of Puerto Madryn, Diego González, the president of the Patagonian Sports Entity Diego Rosati and other sports authorities in the region, it was held this Thursday at night, the official opening of the second Patagonian Integration Games, which will be held until Sunday the 28th in the town of Golfo.

The regional event, organized by Chubut Deportes with the support of the Government of Chubut, will bring together more than 700 young people from the Patagonian provinces of Argentina, to compete in the disciplines table tennis, badminton, archery (these three are also in adapted), Olympic lifting, Olympic wrestling, taekwondo, artistic gymnastics, tennis and the novelty of this edition, climbing.

Regarding the ages of participation of the athletes in all conventional disciplines, it will be up to 17 years, while for athletes with disabilities the age range will comprise from 16 to 25 years.

The event will be held in a participatory manner, that is, with the delivery of medals by discipline, but without consecrating a general champion.

COLORFUL SHOW

The inaugural act was held in a packed gym of the Ferrocarril Patagonico club, at night.

At the beginning of the event, the participating delegations, the provincial, regional and municipal authorities, the flag bearers and the mascot “Frank”, who will encourage and accompany the athletes during the three days of competition, presented themselves.

Then, an emotional video was projected to sing the Argentine National Anthem, with images of the natural beauties that the port city offers, after which came an extraordinary show, created especially for the opening of this event.

“Muévete” was a percussion and dance show that combined different musical genres, such as urban music, hip hop, reggaeton, electronic music, and African-rooted percussion. It had the particularity that the musicians used the mixture of conventional instruments, with instruments made from recycled materials, emphasizing care for the environment.

Later, the video called “Making History” was shown, which reviewed each of the programs carried out by the Patagonian Sports Entity, where this new contest is added, which begins to make history.

Later came the emotional words of welcome from Gustavo Hernández and Diego González as hosts and from Diego Rosati, as head of the organizing committee.

In the final stretch of the event, it was time for the Olympic torch, the symbol of the games, which was led by Julio César Calvo, a Malvinas ex-combatant and a regional sports legend. Established footballer who defended the colors of several clubs in the region and who was called up under the motto ‘To our Malvinas boys, who we will never forget’. He was the one who also crowned the ritual of lighting the cauldron, which formally inaugurated this sporting and integration event.

The competition will begin this Friday in the morning and will end on Sunday the 28th at noon.
