The Emilia Romagna GP is in danger due to floods

The heavy rains have caused the authorities to evacuate this Tuesday the Îmola circuit. The Emilia-Romagna area is currently on red alert due to storms and floods and everything indicates that it will continue to rain quite heavily next weekend, when the Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix (sixth of the season).

Heavy rain had already alerted the Formula 1 world. Rain forecasts increased up to 80% for the weekend, predicting that there would be several sessions in the wet. But the problem now lies in the circuit before the possibility that the santerno riverwhich is next to the route, can overflow.

The authorities have ordered the eviction of the circuit to guarantee the safety of the workers, a few days before the start of the Grand Prix (next Friday). The red alert and storms are expected to continue for the next few hours. In principle they would not threaten the dispute of the grand prize, although it all depends on the strength of the precipitations that are registered on the weekendso it would not be surprising if some sessions could be delayed or even suspended.

Pirelli and Formula 1 planned to introduce a new classification format regarding tires for this Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Pilots were to be required to wear hard tires in Q1, medium in Q2 and soft in Q3but the plans could go down the drain if heavy rainfall finally occurs over the weekend.

Of course, the pilots would have the opportunity to test the new Pirelli rain compound, the main novelty of which is that it does not require prior warm-up and which promises to work much better in cases of extreme rain.
