The 15 sports with the most federative licenses in Spain

After the total number of federation licenses in Spain fell by 5.10% in 2021, going from 3.82 million in 2020 to 3.62 million in 2021, last 2022 was a year of change in trend and the upward trend resumed. The 4.10 million licenses registered in 2022 represented an increase of 13.21% compared to the 3.62 million in 2021.

The 4.10 million licenses of the past 2022 represented a new record, after the year that had registered the most so far had been 2019, with 3.92 million licenses.

HISTORICAL FEMALE RECORD

Of the 4.10 million federation licenses in 2022, 75.70% (2.93 million) were male, while the remaining 24.20% (998,085) corresponded to women.

Never in the sports history of Spain have women been so close to one million federation licenses.

FOOTBALL IS STRENGTHENING

Despite not being the discipline included in the top-15 sports with the highest number of federative licenses in Spain that has grown the most, Football strengthened its hegemony in this scenario in 2022. It is the only federation that exceeds one million licenses (1.13 million) and its growth from 2021 to 2022 has been 25%.

Although men continue to be the ones who account for the bulk of federated members of this sport (92.28%), it is noteworthy that it was women who grew the most in number of licenses from 2021 to 2022. The 87,827 female licenses in 2022 represented a 30.79% more than the 67,149 that were registered in 2021.

The growth of men, on the other hand, was lower. These, which exceeded one million licenses last 2022 (1.04 million) increased the figure by 24.97%, in relation to the 840,074 that accumulated in 2021.

BASKETBALL WINS THE HUNT

After many years in which hunting had been the second sport in Spain that brought together the largest number of licenses, in 2022, it fell in relation to the figure for 2021 and could not contain the advance of basketball, which, with 377,108 licenses, a 38 41% more than in 2021, he was second in the ranking. Without a doubt, basketball was the revelation of the past 2022, since after appearing in fifth place in the 2021 ranking, that growth of 38.41% earned it the aforementioned second position in the table, surpassing not only hunting, but also also to golf, second and third occupants of the 2021 podium.

JUDO AND KARATE CLIMBING

Both karate and judo lived their year of recovery in 2022. In this sense, after not appearing in the top-15 in 2021, in 2022 they did enter it. Judo, with 98,791 licenses in 2022 (61.72% more than in 2021) came in seventh place, while karate, with 75,100 licenses (34.07% more than in 2021), came in twelfth place in the ranking. ranking.

Of the fifteen sports disciplines that make up the top-15 with the highest number of licenses, up to 12 sports managed to increase their number of licenses in 2022, compared to those they had in 2021.

On the other hand, two of them followed regressive evolutions. One was hunting, with a drop of 1.03%, and the other was cycling, with a drop of greater caliber, that is, 4.23%. That loss of licenses meant that cycling went from eleventh position in 2021 to fourteenth in 2022.

One of the surprises of the data collected in the 2023 Sports Statistics Yearbook of the Ministry of Culture and Sport has been the number of federated members of 2022 obtained by paddle tennis.

Certainly, it has managed to exceed 96,000 licenses. However, tennis in 2022 cut the advantage of paddle tennis. If in 2021, they were distanced by 16,225 licenses in favor of paddle tennis, in 2022, the difference was reduced to 13,040.

FALLS FROM HORSE RIDING AND SWIMMING

In the top-15 of 2021, horse riding ranked twelfth, while swimming ranked fifteenth.

In the top-15 of 2022, on the other hand, both disciplines have been lowered due to the growth led by judo and karate. Horse riding registered a lower number of licenses in 2022 (68,770) than in 2021 (72,987), but swimming grew, after going from 65,454 in 2021 to 66,775 in 2022.
