Tennis: Mischa Zverev trains with sick children at SCC Berlin | Sports

Great tennis at SCC Berlin!

At the “Zverev Event Day” Mischa Zverev (35), brother of Olympic champion Alexander (26), advertised his diabetes foundation. Also present in the capital: ex-professional Marc-Kevin Goellner (52, Davis Cup winner 1993).

Mischa: “Children all over the world are dying of diabetes. That must not be, my brother wants to do something about it. We collect donations primarily for regions of the world where insulin and test strips are scarce. If you look at developing countries, in Africa or Asia, it’s about true survival.”

At first, Mischa trained with eight children suffering from diabetes on the tennis court at Berlin’s Mommsen Stadium.

“We want to show them that you can do sports with the disease – and in the case of my brother even professional sports at the highest level,” explained Zverev: “In Germany it’s about encouraging children and parents to do it with diabetes or asthma can achieve anything. Sascha is a good example of what is possible with discipline, ambition and the love of the family.”

Mischa’s brother only made his long-standing diabetes illness public last year and founded the foundation. Zverev: “He never wanted to use them as an excuse for losing games, so he took his time with it. He would like to say as number 1 or with a Grand Slam title that he has diabetes. Now it was earlier.”

This is how the Nagelsmann dismissal went “Are you kidding me?”

Alexander played at the same time at the Masters in Rome – twice. First he finalized his third round victory against the American JJ Wolf (6:4, 7:5), then he lost in the round of 16 to his permanent rival Daniil Medvedev 2:6 and 6:7. For the raffle for his foundation, however, he sent autographed clubs and shoes to Berlin.

Mischa was also challenged athletically as the highlight of his guest appearance in Berlin. At Goellner’s side, he fought a generational duel with two SCC talents in Davis Cup mode. Mischa judged Diego Dedura-Palomero (15), number 1 in Europe in his age group: “He plays excellent tennis.” But it wasn’t enough for a win against Zverev, who also won his second individual against the German U18 champion Markus Malaszszak ( 18) won.
