The Syntainics MBC basketball players still have to worry about staying up in the league. The Weißenfels team narrowly missed their fourth away win on Tuesday and lost to seventh-placed ratiopharm Ulm after two overtimes with 122:128 (111:111, 98:98, 48:55). This means that the Central Germans are only two points ahead of the still vacant relegation zone two games before the end of the season. The Weißenfels team, who unfortunately lost in extra time six days ago in Ludwigsburg, are under pressure to win in the two home games against Oldenburg on Friday and against Crailsheim on Sunday.
Karim Jallow (36), Bruno Caboclo (21), Yago Mateus dos Santos (19) and Thomas Klepeisz (14) played the biggest part in Ulm’s success. For the MBC Syntainics, Mitchell Ballock (24), Charles Callison, John Bryant (20 each), Kris Clyburn (19), Kostja Mushidi, Tremmell Darden (14 each) scored the most points. Darden also got ten strong rebounds.
The guests slept through the starting phase and were already 7:19 behind after five minutes. Ulm initially dominated the game and shortly after the break even led 62:48 (22nd). With a 12:2 run, the team from Weißenfels fought their way up to 60:64 (26th), went into the last quarter with a 75:71 lead and were 89:83 (37th). With two converted free throws, Caboclo forced an extension for Ulm. There the hosts rushed to 106:99 (43rd). The guests came back in this dramatic game and managed to equalize. In the second overtime, Ulm had more staying power and also the necessary bit of luck on their side. The hosts also had a small advantage under the baskets (53:42 rebounds).
