Here’s the detailed video alongside the full press release offering more details on how Baseball Legends works in SMB 4.

Full press release:

MLBPAA integration

Over the past three Super Mega Baseball™ titles, you’ve seen the series expand with new fictional Super Mega Superstars, teams, and ballparks.

We have seen discussions over the years within our community about wanting to have real players in the game. In SMB4 we had the opportunity to expand the Super Mega universe with the addition of Legends real baseball.

One of our goals has been to make the Super Mega Baseball series a timeless experience, a game you can return to year after year without feeling like your rosters are outdated. Having baseball greats in our game allows us to provide our players with real-life legends while maintaining the timeless nature of Super Mega Baseball. We thought it was the most authentic way to honor baseball’s legacy, as well as the eras and players that defined the sport we love so much.

Who are the legends and where can we find them?

With over 240 legends available to play at launch, there’s absolutely no shortage of historical players to choose from.

Some of the more notable legends include:

  • David Ortis
  • Vladimir Guerrero
  • Billy Wagner
  • bartolo colon
  • joseph bautista
  • Mike Musina
  • Georges Brett
  • Baby Ruth
  • Willie Mays
  • Rollie fingers
  • Ozzie Smith
  • Hank Aaron and many more!

You can find these legends in the classic Super Mega League, as well as the all-new Legends League in SMB4. Now players can choose to play either as fictional SMB characters or as their favorite legends in the fictional SMB world.

In this league, we have organized the legends into two conferences: the New School Conference and the Old School Conference, pitting the two eras of baseball against each other.

Each conference includes brand new teams like the Mammotanks et Empire at the new school conference, and Auteurs et Joyriders in the old school conference.

MLBPAA integration in game modes

There are a ton of ways to play with Legends in-game. We wanted to make sure our players had the flexibility to create the SMB experience they want to play.

You can play Season Mode using a Legends League team, or you can make a copy of a Legends League team and customize the players and team to your liking.

You can also start certain modes like Franchise, Season, and Online Leagues with our brand new Shuffle Draft feature, which will allow you to create teams that incorporate both Legends and Super Mega All-Stars into one team!

In Franchise mode, you can import players from other leagues and they will appear as free agents that you can pick up during your season or during the offseason. For example, you can start a franchise game with the Super Mega League where legends appear as free agents from season to season.

We also made some changes to Pennant Race to include our legends. Each week, 4 players from each Super Mega League team are replaced by 4 Legends, now called “Pennant Race Ringers”. Teams that haven’t been used much recently or overall lose more than other teams, receive louder ringtones. Conversely, teams that are picked frequently or have high win rates overall receive lower ringers. This replaces the random Mojo and Fitness changes for each run that were seen in SMB2 and SMB3. Pennant Race is still limited to the 20 Super Mega League teams (but these teams can be visually customized).

We’re excited to see how you choose to incorporate baseball legends into your Super Mega Baseball experience and, as always, we’ll be waiting for feedback from the community.
