Success of the V Torrezno de Soria Tournament

Last Saturday, the Fuente del Rey Pavilion was the venue for the fifth Torrezno de Soria Badminton tournament with the presence of rackets from Castilla y León, Madrid, Navarra, the Basque Country and Aragon.

The organization of the tournament, scoring for the national ranking, offered all the participants and the winners a tray of torreznos thanks to the help of the Association of Manufacturers of Torreznos de Soria and the company “La Despensa”.

Organized by the Badminton Provincial Delegation and by the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club, the competition was an added success due to the level of the participants that gave rise to high level and intensity matches.

The participation of the Sorianos did not disappoint, managing to climb to most of the podiums, leaving a good taste in the mouths of the local fans.

Mainly highlighted, in the senior category, Esther Pereira from AD89 and Jose Carlos Pérez from Club Badminton Soria-CS24, with two gold medals for each of them in the modalities they played.

In the absolute category, the expedition from Soria obtained four golds from the five game modalities.

The U-17 player Daniela Corchón continues with her great moment of form, and after recently proclaiming herself Champion of Castilla and Léon Absolute, she ratified the result with the victory in the Soriana event. She was accompanied on the podium by her clubmate, Nora Martínez, who lost in the final match 14-21, 21-19 and 21-9.

Nora, would recover from the defeat by winning the title of the women’s double modality, winning, along with Esther Periera from Burgos. The Soria couple comfortably won all their matches by two sets to nil.

There was also gold in the men’s double thanks to Jorge Peñaranda from Soriano who was paired with David Manzano from Estellés. After a few months of recovery after overcoming an injury, Jorge begins to perform at the level that he treasures, as he demonstrated in the weekend’s appointment.

The fourth title, second for Esther Pereira from Burgos, came in the mixed doubles. Together with Raul Gutierrez from Burgos, they demonstrated why they are in the highest positions in the national ranking.

Victor Ortega completed the list of absolute medalists with a highly commendable silver medal in the men’s individual category. Facing the nineteenth national racket in the final, Victor may well force the third set after being defeated 21-19.

If the absolute players were inspired, something similar also happened with the performance of the senior players. In the individual modality, José Carlos Pérez fulfilled the forecasts to win. Playing with Manuel Acero, he repeated gold in the men’s doubles draw. He would also obtain a medal, in this case a bronze, for José Romero from Burgos in this same test.

The last medals would fall in the mixed double modality, with the silver won by Sergio Latorre and Cristina Puebla from Burgos together with the bronze by Manuel Acero who participated together with the Basque Cristina Irigoien.

With the good taste of the competition and the soriano delicacy, the organizers and the participants were summoned for the dispute of a new test for the next season.

The weekend was completed with the participation of Santiago Martínez in the Ronda Senior National Master. The man from Soriano stood out in the mixed double modality, winning a bronze medal together with Beatriz Martín from Extremadura.
