Strap does not hook, they call it “Cheater”

Carlos Correa took a post-game dig into his past in stride.

One day after White Sox reliever Keynan Middleton, striking out Correa to end the game, then calling him a cheater after he earned his first save of the season, the two-time All-Star shortstop refused to take the bait.

“I’ve heard worse things,” Correa told reporters before the series finale on Thursday. “I’m glad she’s doing well and playing well and can take care of her family.

“Obviously, it’s tough. He’s getting better and that’s why he’s throwing high leverage situations for them.”

Middleton played his first five major league seasons in the AL West, competing against Correa and the Astros.

He seemed to relish the opportunity to face him with a game on the line.

“I knew that I was going to face Correa and I don’t like him. So that was great,” he said after punching out a 96.2 mph fastball to cap off the White Sox’s 6-4 win. “I like that. I enjoyed it a lot. … I mean, he’s a cheater.”

Houston was disciplined by Major League Baseball after it was discovered that the team used electronic devices to steal signs during its 2017 world championship run and again in the 2018 season.

MLB’s investigation determined that Houston used a video feed from a center field camera to view and decode the opposing catcher’s signals during home games. Players would bang on a trash can to signal hitters what was coming, believing it would improve their chances of getting a hit.

Then-manager AJ Hinch was suspended and fired for the consequences, but no players were penalized after they were granted immunity by commissioner Rob Manfred as part of the league’s investigation.

Correa and other Astros who have moved to other teams since the investigation are frequent boos from fans at opposing ballparks.
