Serin, Villière, Biggar, Paia’aua… Toulon loses world against Glasgow

Dan Biggar, Duncan Paia’aua, Baptiste Serin and Gabin Villière in turn came out injured in the Challenge Cup final won against the Warriors.

A glorious evening but a worrying future… Toulon easily and logically imposed themselves during this Challenge Cup final. Victory 43-17 against the Glasgow Warriors for the players of Franck Azéma and Pierre Mignoni. The RCT won for the first time in this competition after losing four finals.

After only a few minutes of play, Dan Biggar was forced to leave his place for a concussion protocol, logically replaced by Ihaia West. Only, struck by a violent charge, the Welsh opener will not return. “He had a concussion, we didn’t take any risks”advanced Pierre Mignoni, the Var co-manager.

Jérémy Sinzelle entered the game on the half hour to replace Duncan Paia’aua, also out on concussion. The Toulon center did not return to the lawn of Aviva Sadium.

Baptiste Serin enjoyed the first period. The French scrum-half scored two tries and secured against the posts to put Toulon into orbit. But number 9 Toulon was injured, certainly in the ankle, at the very end of the first period. Unable to walk, he was evacuated by the staff. Baptiste Serin returned after the match, on crutches, to celebrate with his teammates. “He was injured but I hope he will be fine for the future,” pointed out Pierre Mignoni.

Gabin Villière also came out injured after this first act. Mathieu Bastareaud returned to the center to replace him in the second act.
