Series about Dutchman imprisoned in US for 39 years may be broadcast | Media

The BNNVARA docuseries about Jaitsen Singh, the longest detained Dutchman abroad, may be broadcast. The court in Amsterdam determined this after Singh had filed summary proceedings to prevent the broadcast and distribution.

Singh was convicted in the United States in 1986 of having his wife and stepdaughter murdered. He received a total of 56 years in prison. He has now been held in an American prison for 39 years. He has always denied involvement in the murders.

The documentary series An American Nightmare includes the case of 78-year-old Singh. Alleged sexual abuse by him is also discussed, and his possible connections to the drug world. Singh is afraid that this will get him into trouble with fellow detainees.

According to the judge, this is no reason to prevent the documentary from being broadcast. The moment Singh gave permission to work with BNNVARA, the Dutchman knew that he had been accused of sexual abuse. That is why he could have foreseen that it would be mentioned in the documentary, says the judge.

Singh’s sister has on NRC to contest the verdict.
