Thus the maxi banner displayed before the kick-off in the heart of the Sampdoria supporters. A strong message also to the team from the Doriani supporters who would have hoped they could still be in the running for salvation while the mathematical relegation to Serie B materialized last week after the defeat suffered in Udine. A legitimate outlet from the fans who in any case incite and support Quagliarella and his companions in an extraordinary way up to the 90th and surroundings. And they loudly repeat “Hands off Sampdoria”.
The blucerchiati responded present in a lively first half: in the 34th minute Quagliarella’s magic from the left triggered Zanoli who hit on the fly, a dirty trajectory was born which became a winner. Bravo in the 25th minute on Marin’s central shot (then Caputo arrives late on the rebound) and very good in the 33rd minute on Baldanzi’s parable deflected by Henderson. In the second half, Zanetti boosted the attack with Pjaca and Destro but Samp managed to manage the Tuscan reaction and also tried to hit a free kick in the 7th minute with Gabbiadini from the edge: Vicario’s diving reflex was extraordinary.
Empoli wants the point which would mean mathematical salvation. There is the insertion of Cambiaghi in the 20th minute but Nuytinck deflects for a corner, while a minute later Caputo puts just wide. Then there’s the stadium ovation for Quagliarella who leaves the field after a super performance: Lammers takes his place. The pace drops, Empoli also plays the Small card by putting more centimeters in attack. It’s the right move at the right time: we’re in full recovery, the shot in full area is a sentence. It’s a celebration for the Tuscans in the umpteenth cursed evening of this dramatic year for Sampdoria.
