Sepp Kuss was alone when he got the Sram running

Third duel, now in the Giro, between Roglic and Evenpoel in less than a year

Joanseguidor podcast

There is one thing clear in this pulse, that everything that is not between Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic in this Giro is very difficult to imagine.

That is the reality that I was commenting on the Big 6 and I think that any preview of the first big of the year goes through both names.

A first note, any thorough analysis of this Giro would surely enter the course of the mountain stages, the time trials, the dangers with the wind and those things.

However with these two things are different, the genius that both handle can turn any day into a high to rememberlooking for any slope, probing a turn of the wind and looking, simply, to surprise.

Shimano Sep 2022 – Post

It will be the third duel between Roglic and Remco in less than a year, and it is in the beautiful Giro, fertile ground for surprises.

You already know how the previous two ended.

Roglic’s fall in the Tomares de la Vuelta stagewhen he had caught Remco for grapes in an inconsequential batch, on paper, it was an undeserved end to that rivalry that had all the overtones of being historic in the Sierra de Madrid.

The second leg was played in the Volta itself, less than two months ago, in a game of cat and mouse in which Roglic gave Remco some key that could go well for the Giro.

The Belgian, who may feel like it, will do well with a dose of sangfroid in a Giro that comes with the usual ingredients, plus a good helping of time trials, good news for the world champion.

Be careful that Remco is going to have more than 50 kilometers of completely flat individual tests to face the great mountain of Italythe one that we all wait to see if he will be able to overcome.

Two times in the first half of the journey are gold for the world champion, two days in which Primoz Roglic must go out to bail out water, on paper, since it will not be the first time that the Slovenian appears in sheep’s clothing and ends up being the wolf

In any case, the return of the time trials gives all this an incentive that, otherwise, would be difficult to find, because when it comes to high mountains, here I see the Slovenian as superior.

Perhaps it is because of the confidence that Roglic transmits, perhaps also because of Remco’s uncertainty in the big summits, because I have never seen the Belgian above 2000 meters chaining peaks in a large.

For Evenepoel this Giro is his third big one, let’s remember that two years ago he abandoned the Italian race and last year he won the Vuelta, enduring Sierra Nevada, yes, but not with those chained ones that he said before and the Giro offers.

Be careful that these altitudes, with so much fatigue in the body, are a slab for those who do not digest them well and I see doubts around Remco, doubts that are not insurmountable walls, because if the Belgian boy has shown one thing, it is that he is capable of giving him the return to the situation, when we least expect it.

Last year he appeared in the Vuelta, he led it from the first weekend and from there they no longer took him away.

Are the Giro and the Vuelta different? I think so, but just as Remco had his first time in Spain, I would not rule out that he redo it for Italy and its Giro.

With everything, yes, and assuming that a third party does not enter the competition, I see Roglic one step above Remco, then the road will tell.
