Schalke – Eintracht Frankfurt: DFL decision lets fans rage again

Pure drama in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga! In the thick of it is FC Schalke 04, who absolutely need three points against Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 33 (Saturday, May 20, 3:30 p.m.) to be able to continue dreaming of staying up in the league.

But just before FC Schalke 04 – Eintracht Frankfurt, a DFL decision caused a sad mood among the royal blue supporters. There was already a lot of trouble at the 0: 6 swatter against FC Bayern a week ago.

FC Schalke 04 – Eintracht Frankfurt: Again trouble about appointment

If there are disputed decisions on the 33rd match day at FC Schalke 04 – Eintracht Frankfurt, many eyes will be on the VAR, among others. The DFL has now commissioned Robert Schröder, of all people, to play this game. There he freaked out the S04 fans.

It was 27 minutes in the Allianz Arena when Jamal Musiala ran into the Schalke penalty area and was stopped by Cedric Brunner. The Bayern star falls theatrically, Brunner is said to have actively hit him in the face with his arm. Schröder goes to the Revier area and, after several minutes of checking with the VAR, decided on a penalty. For the Schalke fans it was a clear wrong decision. Even before the game, there was excitement that the DFL would use him as a referee. The reason is a history from the 1st matchday.

At that time, Schröder was also the referee in the 1:3 defeat against 1. FC Köln and also caused angry royal blue supporters with some decisions. First Rodrigo Zalazar gave the miners the lead with a dream goal, but VAR and Schröder took the goal back. Shortly thereafter, Dominick Drexler flew off the field with a more than just questionable red card. The dismissal in particular left many questions unanswered, as Drexler hit his opponent Jonas Hector on the calf, but neither malicious intent nor intensity was evident. Both pros even clapped each other after the duel.

“Please not Schröder again”

No good memories at all for the FC Schalke 04 fans. The DFL decision makes her all the more angry now, of all things, two games before the end against Eintracht Frankfurt. After all, the Revierklub needs important points in the fight to stay up. “Robert Schroeder is the VAR? That’s honestly a bad joke, isn’t it?”, “He turns off the monitors in case of wrong decisions against Schalke” and “None of this can be true. I have a real stomach ache when I see Schröder as a VAR,” it said, among other things, on social networks. It was also Schröder who saw Marius Bülter receive his fifth yellow card last week and will therefore miss the match against Frankfurt.

But what should encourage the Gelsenkircheners is the recent positive record at home games. With the exception of the 0:3 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, the S04 won in front of their home crowd against Bremen (2:1), Hertha (5:2) and Stuttgart (2:1) in the second half of the season. There was also a 2-2 draw against BVB and two 0-0 draws against Cologne and Wolfsburg.

But then there would also be the referee of the game against Frankfurt. Daniel Schlager is the referee. Here, too, the balance under the native Rastatt looks positive. Of the five games under his leadership, Schalke won twice, two games ended in draws and there was only one defeat in the first half of the season against FC Augsburg.
