SC Freiburg: Streich kicks out the Freiburg star! | Sports

Was that the end of it for him?

It is an open secret that Roland Sallai (25) wants to leave SC Freiburg. The hopes that the Hungarian could still help Christian Streich’s (57) team on the pitch by then were dashed for the time being!

Because: Sallai was missing on Saturday against RB Leipzig (0: 1) in the SC Freiburg squad. And with a serious reason. He was removed from the squad by coach Christian Streich (57) for disciplinary reasons!

“Roland Sallai was given a pause to think, that’s why he wasn’t there,” explains the football coach. When asked if he could go on, Streich replied: “The wording says it all. He got a break, um to think. Everything else is internal.”

Background: From Streich’s point of view, the offensive player is not able to correctly classify his situation and performance. There is currently a world of difference between Sallais’ claim and his coach’s ratings. His head is now less and less in Freiburg anyway. After the cup game, this reached a new low point and led to the exit bang!

On Friday, BILD spoke to Streich about Sallai, who replied mystically: “He can become important if he can classify things correctly.”

From Streich’s point of view, that doesn’t seem possible for his player at the moment. Squad sacking instead of starting eleven chance!

Also part of it: the training performance. This was already a topic a month ago. Streich fits: “If a player doesn’t play, I still expect a top attitude in the next training session. I understand being upset. But if the training performance is not top, then the player has no arguments to come on the pitch.”

Even then, nobody wanted to know anything about it from the players’ environment. On the contrary: Sallais father Tibor had previously attacked the Freiburg coach. He accused him of not letting Roland play because of an upcoming move to Italy. Streich didn’t want to hold that against his player at the time. It definitely didn’t help though!

The spicy thing: Actually, Sallai would have been an option for the starting eleven. Because dribbler Ritsu Doan (24 / knee problems) was out, the perfect place was open for him against Leipzig. Mainly because the performances recently spoke more for Sallai. In Bremen he became a winning hero (goal and assist) and in the cup against Leipzig he was the best Freiburg player on the pitch after being substituted on (assist).

All the more the dispute comes at the wrong time and brings in unrest in the decisive phase of the season. But that’s not why Streich wanted to drop his principles!

Sallai is well received in the team, sitting in the dressing room next to regular striker Michael Gregoritsch (29). Colleagues would have liked to have had Sallai’s strengths in the first possible preliminary decision about the Champions League. However, nobody definitely talks into the coach’s decision. Mainly because it didn’t come as a complete surprise to everyone involved.

Whether Sallai will be back in the squad in the final of the Champions League on Saturday (3.30 p.m.) against Union Berlin is an open question. “The pause for thought only lasted until 10 a.m. on Sunday. She went two and a half days and I really hope that will be enough. Normally that should be enough time to think,” says Streich.

It currently seems more than questionable that both sides will really pull themselves together again…
