Rybakina became champion after Kalinina’s retirement

Elena Rybakina returned to champion in the 2023 season. The 23-year-old Kazakh was established winner of the WTA 1000 from Rome after defeating Anhelina Kalínina 6-4, 1-0 and retired.

The Ukrainian was affected by a problem in the back of her leg that deprived her of continuing to play in the grand final. However, this does not tarnish the great tournament she had in the Italian capital after leaving players like Madison Keys, Beatriz Haddad Maia and Veronika Kudermetova on the road.

For Rybakina, this title meant the second of her season in four finals played. However, it should be noted that she played four definitions of more than important events: Australian Open (runner-up), Indian Wells (champion), Miami (runner-up) Rome (Champion).
