John Heitinga indicated after the lost match against FC Twente that he expects clarity about the future of the trainer at Ajax next week. In the press conference after the match, colleague Ron Jans spoke up for the coach of Ajax.

“I never know exactly how a trainer is doing,” Ron Jans reported at the press conference. “I think that a lot of clubs sometimes treat trainers so badly. I’m not going to answer any questions, but I just feel sorry for Heitinga, Dennis van der Ree. Sometimes those are just mission impossibles and they just let them dangle and that really pisses me off. Only I can’t change that. But I can occasionally stand up for our profession.”

“If you just lead a club well, which has been great at Ajax for a few years,” the FC Twente coach continues. “In a phase when Dutch football was criticized enormously, I enjoyed Ajax for years. I think Real Madrid was perhaps the best out there. But they really have to get things in order there and the trainers are often the victims of that I’m disappointed about that, also at other clubs. Van der Sar and Overmars always supported Ten Hag. He also had a difficult first half year. Just do that. Trainers also have to develop. It didn’t work out with Ruud van Nistelrooij. I don’t know the details about it, but I think it’s such a shame.”
