Two of the best French were (logically?) eliminated in the first round. The Finn Emil Ruusuvuori, 46th player in the world, defeated Grégoire Barrère, 58th at ATP. In a 100% tricolor shock, Richard Gasquet (52nd) lost to Arthur Rinderknech (78th).
