Robert Saleh Calls Aaron Rodgers’ Bucket List Story ‘Silly’

The Jets head coach denied that signing the quarterback’s former teammates was a resource to hire him.

“I’ve never been around a quarterback like him. All his experience, his communication, every play he talks to receivers, his demeanor in meetings, it’s almost like having another coach in there,” he explained. Saleh in press conference.

Aaron Rodgers signed last April to play with the Jets after spending 18 years with the Green Bay Packers, with whom he won a Super Bowl and was named MVP of the NFL season four times.

Saleh underscored the influence the 39-year-old veteran has had on the youngsters on the team.

“The impact he’s had in the dressing room has been very positive. He’s absorbing everything very quickly, I think he’s enjoying being here,” he added.

Saleh He ruled out that one of the resources used to sign the Chico, California-born quarterback was to comply with the hiring of several of his former Packers teammates.

“I’ll try to say this with as much respect as possible, without attacking anyone in particular; I think that narrative about fulfilling a wish list is silly“, he pointed out.

Among the ex-colleagues of Rodgers that the Jets Signed this offseason are wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb; tackle Bill Turner and quarterback Tim Boyle; plus offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

The head coach of New York shared responsibility for these hires with Hackett, who worked with Aaron Rodgers between 2019 and 2021 in Green Bay.

“Hackett has something to say about that for all of them. He loves Lazard, he loves Randall, he took Billy Turner with him to Denver and he wanted him here in New York. Of course you’re going to surround a coach with players that he feels will be able to be competitive,” he concluded.
