The Telekom Baskets Bonn are the sensations team of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL).
With 30 wins and only two defeats, they lead the table – ahead of the industry giants Alba Berlin and Bayern Munich. That was unimaginable before the start of the season. Or not?
BILD found out: The Bonn players have master premiums in their contracts! Everyone has individually negotiated a bonus payment. Should the miracle happen and Bonn win the first championship title in the club’s history, each player will receive between 10,000 and 20,000 euros.

This proves that the Bonn players already thought the title was possible in the summer. “I firmly believe that we can become champions,” says playmaker TJ Shorts (25).
“We don’t have to hide from Alba and Bayern either. We beat them in the regular season.”
Bonn has a budget of 6.5 million euros. A no brainer compared to Bavaria: They have 25 million. Alba Berlin, champion of the past three years, has 14 million euros available. “Financially, we are hopelessly inferior to Bavaria and Alba,” says Bonn President Wolfgang Wiedlich (67). “But we make up for that with other things — with collective quality and passion.”
Top performers will leave the club after this season. In particular, TJ Shorts, whose contract is ending, will be unsustainable. He would like to move to Spain.
“We also played well on the European stage and reached the final four in the Champions League,” says Wiedlich. “The result is: now half of Europe is after our players.”
The coach Tuomas Iisalo (40), whose contract is also ending, is also in the sights of the top clubs.
There is no better farewell than the championship title…
