Residential burglary radar: Burglars love open apartment buildings

In the past week, five burglaries were reported in Oberhausen, one of which failed due to vigilant neighbors or well-secured windows and doors.

The unlocked front doors of our apartment buildings in particular exert a magical attraction on criminals.

Once they have entered the stairwell unnoticed, they routinely search for apartments whose residents are not at home at the time. Then they strike quickly and ruthlessly and disappear just as quickly as they came.

But other rules of conduct also ensure that burglars are not even interested in your four walls.

For example, “tilting” windows on the upper floors are a “good opportunity” for acrobatic burglars – and as is well known, opportunity makes thieves.
