RB Leipzig, coach Marco Rose: “… then we had Bayern on the hook”

RB Leipzig won for the first time at FC Bayern and at the same time secured another year of the Champions League. On top of that, coach Marco Rose announced that he wanted to stay with the Saxons “in the long term”.

Applause: Marco Rose was satisfied with the performance improvement of his Leipzig players in Munich.

“Bayern weren’t much better than us – so we know why we won.” Marco Rose came to this conclusion immediately after the 0-1 deficit in Munich, which turned into a 3-1 win, in an interview with “Sky”.

The RB coach explained exactly what he meant by that: “During the break we had the feeling that we could do a lot of things better.” His team finally took that to heart and improved significantly. “With the counterattack and the goal, faith grew. Then we had them on the hook.”

All in all for him “a great performance by his team – compliments to the boys, especially at this stage of the season, for being there on the spot.”

Especially because two big things were achieved with this coup: For the first time ever, RBL successfully struck in the Allianz Arena, had four defeats and two draws to date. And the Champions League, the minimum goal for the Saxons in this season, which also had some downs, was finally wrapped up with this threesome one game day before the end.

“We want to get it all out again”

Is this secured premier class ticket also the trigger for Rose, who was born in Leipzig, to extend his contract, which only runs until June 30, 2024? As a reminder, managing director Max Eberl had already confirmed on ZDF in early April that the club wanted to continue working with Rose in the future. “We want to extend with Marco, that’s clear,” Eberl said at the time.

“I have a contract, I really like being in Leipzig and I will definitely stay in Leipzig,” said Rose on Saturday evening and added: “We will also talk about constellations that may be a bit longer-term – you can assume that.”

But there is one other thing to do first: the DFB Cup final against Eintracht Frankfurt on June 3, 2023 (Saturday, 8 p.m., LIVE! on kicker). “First of all, the most important thing is that we’ve reached the Champions League,” said Rose. “But we still have the cup final in two weeks, so we want to keep the excitement high and crown the season with a title. The season was long, but we want to get everything out there again.”
