PROCESSION AND CELEBRATIONFESTIVAL OF THE “VISITATION” or of the “Matonna a ‘ddoi. On Wednesday 31 May there will be the feast of the so-called “Matonna a ‘ddoi”, a lost and rediscovered tradition, now in its second (re)edition. The appointment is at 6.30 pm in the Cathedral, from here the procession will leave to then reach Largo Porta Thaon De Revel, where the Eucharistic Celebration will take place at 7.00 pm. The wooden statue, affectionately called “Matonna a ‘ddoi”, represents the meeting between young Mary and aged Elizabeth. The Cathedral parish is also named after the Visitation, whose community is about to celebrate it. The statue, dear to the devotion of fishermen, is particularly linked to the Sciabiche district of the city. Montenegro, the pedestrian area adjacent to Via Lenio Flacco, Via Thaon de Revel Paolo up to the intersection with Via Andrea Pigonati, the place where Holy Mass will be celebrated. From here it will leave again to be brought back to the Cathedral, along Via Thaon de Revel Paolo, Via Pasquale Camassa, Vico De’ Vavotici, Via Giovanni Maria Moricino, viaPiertommaso Santabarbara, Via Giovanni Tarantini up to Piazza Duomo. The desire is not to lose and, indeed, recover the traditions of the people of God, with a view to enhancing the popular sentiment, on the basis of the words of Pope Francis, who underlines the importance of “popular piety” as an “authentic expression of the spontaneous missionary action of the People of God”. This is the will of the parish priest don Mimmo Roma, who strongly wanted to recover this ancient form of devotion, now in its second (re) edition.
