Speaking to The Mail on Sunday, Vardy says: “I call it a cult. People are manipulated, brainwashed, it’s forced behavior and it’s passed down from generation to generation. Once you’re into it, it’s so hard to see the big picture, which is that it’s wrong and immoral.”

Further: “I spent my childhood in fear because I was told that if we didn’t pray enough, we would die in Armageddon. I felt like I had to constantly strive for perfection so God wouldn’t be angry with me.”

Jehovah’s Witnesses call anyone who is not a member a “worldly person.” Vardy: “I’m the worst kind of worldly person because I had the courage – along with all the people brave enough to speak to me for my documentary – to speak out against this religion and say it’s dangerous is.”

The show is Rebekah Vardy’s first public appearance since last year’s Wagatha Christie defamation trial in the Supreme Court.

She sued Coleen Rooney after her colleague accused her of sharing secrets from Coleen’s personal Instagram account, which she denied.

However, the court found that Coleen’s testimonies were essentially true, leaving Rebekah to pay a $4 million legal bill.
