Piracicaba City Council – Arena in the Campestre neighborhood will be named Pastor Vagner Lopes

The Areninha leisure area, located on Avenida Laranjal Paulista, in the Campestre neighborhood, will be called “Pastor Vagner Lopes”. Authored by councilor Ana Pavão (PL), bill 171/2022, which provides for the denomination, was approved this Thursday (18), at the 28th Ordinary Meeting. In the Tribune, the parliamentarian justified the proposal and presented a video recounting the trajectory of the honoree. “A man who put Jesus inside Corinthians”, said Ana Pavão.

THE HONORED – Vagner Lopes, known as “Pastor Vagner Lopes”, began his career in the sport in childhood. After going through several tests, he had the opportunity to defend several clubs, including Primavera de Indaiatuba, Real Madrid (Spain), XV de Piracicaba, Football Club Dallas (USA), Club Atlético Banfield (Argentina) and others.

According to the proposal, Vagner wrote his story based on Christian teachings. His professional career was interrupted after a strong affirmation in his heart for the pastoral ministry and made it clear that the call of Jesus for his life was greater than the achievements he had had.

In mid-2018, he began to meet with players from the professional league of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, at the Joaquim Grava Training Center, “do Timão”. The meetings were filled with testimonies, biblical teachings and fellowship. The testimonies strengthened a bond and spiritual growth between the pastor and the group. He died on July 15, 2021, aged 48.
