PHOTOS AND VIDEOS ⟩ Swedish hockey team coach: Big disappointment

Sweden’s ice hockey players lost 1:3 to host Latvia in the quarter-finals of the world championship in Riga on Thursday, which reached the semi-finals for the first time in history.

“Big disappointment, we came here for something other than to be stopped in the quarter-finals,” Swedish media quoted Hallam as saying.

The Swedes dominated, made almost three times as many shots on goal (41:15), but managed to score only one goal. All the options of the majority also remained unused. “We started the match the way we wanted to, but after an unsuccessful majority we remained nervous,” admitted the coach.

Hallam varied with the team composition, putting first-shift forward Júnatans Berggren as the 13th forward. “We made a team that we felt comfortable with, we also made changes. When Leo Karlsson lost the shots and Andre Peteshon got injured, we put Per Lindholm in the center. We tried to balance the composition, because nothing consists of one player,” explained Hallam.

At the end of the game, there was also a lack of composure in the attack, Hallam admitted.

Latvia in the semifinals on Saturday in Tampere at 14.20 will meet with Canada, but at USA will play Germany at 18.20.
