Patriots will honor Tom Brady

Brady returns to where it all began, the Patriots

Tom Brady will return to Gillette Stadium and to the bench for the New England Patriots. No, he’s not retiring (again), he’s admitted the 2022 offseason retirement is for real this time, but he’s being honored by the team he’s called his own for two decades.

On Thursday, ahead of the NFL schedule reveal, Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced that “the GOAT” will return to where it all began. Brady has taken a trip to Foxborough since he left the Patriots, but it was in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform. This time, his arrival will be about celebrating what he accomplished while he was with the Patriots.

“I think the NFL is over a century old and 20 percent of those NFL years, the greatest player in the history of the game played here in Foxborough,” Kraft said. “And I’m happy to tell you… that I invited him to come here and be with us at the opening game and let the New England fans say thank you for the great service he’s given us over 20 years.”

Kraft teased future Brady-centric events in the announcement, adding that this “will be the start of many celebrations to honor Tom Brady and thank him for what he did for us those 20 years playing for the New England Patriots.”

The Patriots tweeted “12 come home” along with photos of TB12. The team is calling the home opener the “Thank You Tom Game.”
