A mammoth program was on the program for the clubs of the 1st baseball league on the long Ascension Day weekend. Two match days were completed within two days. After nine matchdays in the 2023 season, there are new sole leaders in both the north and south. In the north, after three of four wins against the Hamburg Stealers, the Untouchables Paderborn are now in front, in the south, after four wins against the Mannheim Tornados, the Guggenberger Legionnaires Regensburg.

Paderborn initially shared the victories 3:1 and 2:5 in the top duel in Hamburg on Thursday. In the local Ahorn Ballpark, the Untouchables then won 8:7 on Saturday and 3:2 on Sunday. Paderborn are now up north in the table with a 10-6 record, just ahead of defending champions Bonn Capitals (11-7), who won three of four games in the Rheinderby against the Cologne Cardinals. In addition to 13:4, 11:0 and 5:3 victories, Bonn also had to accept a 1:7 defeat against their local rivals. The series between the Dohren Wild Farmers and Berlin Flamingos was also hard fought. Dohren won games one and four 6-0 and 8-5, Berlin won games two and three 5-3.

In the south, the Guggenberger Legionnaires are at the top of the table with a record of 12-2, just ahead of the Heidenheim Heideköpfen (11-2). Regensburg won 7:0, 8:1, 9:4 and 6:1 against the Mannheim Tornados. Heidenheim, on the other hand, had to settle for two wins and two losses against the Mainz Athletics. Mainz won twice in games one and four with 11:0 and 10:0. In game two and three, the heather heads got the upper hand with 3:0 and 5:0. The A’s (10-4) are also within striking distance in third place in the table. In addition, the Munich-Haar Disciples made up more ground towards the top four with 5: 0 and 4: 3 at the Stuttgart Reds. They are now just one game behind the play-off places.

Next weekend the Mannheim Tornados travel to the Stuttgart Reds and the Munich-Haar Disciples play against the Heidenheim Heideköpfe. And in the north, the Cologne Cardinals host the Hamburg Stealers, the Bonn Capitals host the Berlin Flamingos and the Untouchables Paderborn host the Dohren Wild Farmers.
