Pablo Abián and Jessica Vall leave their mark in Valladolid

Valladolid was once again the great host of new Spanish University Championships (CEU’s), with the entry into the fray of the sports modalities of badminton, archery and swimming, with a large representation of the country’s Universities, and with Olympic athletes who They gave a greater cachet to the competitions held during three days.

In swimming, 300 athletes participated in the tests held at the Parquesol – Laura López Valle pool, 153 in the male category and 147 in the female category with 52 universities represented. Six university records were achieved in Valladolid, in the 200 freestyle, both in the men’s with César Castro, in the women’s with Alba Herrero, as well as in the 800 freestyle with Carlos Garach, in the 200 styles with Diego Mira, in the 100 breaststroke with Jessica Vall and in the 50 butterfly with Rosa Peris.

The UCAM swept 43 metals between individual events and relays with 27 gold medals, while in adapted swimming they achieved 18 medals, 10 being gold. Olympian Jessica Vall stood out, with four golds and one bronze.

In badminton, 26 players in the male category and 22 in the female category participated in Fuente La Mora, up to 17 male couples, 14 in the female and 20 mixed, with up to 28 universities represented in this modality.

Olympian Pablo Abián signed a double in singles and doubles, representing UCAM, being runner-up Alberto Perals from Miguel Hernández de Elche, while in doubles Abián was a partner with Álvaro Leal and defeated Miguel Esteve and Alberto Perals. In the female category, Paula López, from UCAM, took the gold ahead of María de la O. Pérez, from the University of Granada; while in women’s doubles the UCAM prevailed thanks to the couple formed by Nerea Ivorra and Claudia Leal who defeated Amaia Torralba and Ruth Veiguela. In mixed doubles, the victory was for the University of Oviedo thanks to the victory of Amaia Torralba and Pelayo Pinto over Claudila Leal and Álvaro Leal, from UCAM.

The University of Valladolid managed to be a semifinalist in women’s doubles with Clara Campos and Cristina Rivera, and in mixed doubles with Clara Campos and Rodrigo Velázquez. In the honor roll, the San Antonio de Murcia Catholic University was accompanied by the University of Oviedo and in the third drawer the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.

The Spanish Archery Championship was held over two days at the FMD Ciudad de Valladolid Sports Complex with up to 14 universities represented and 36 participants in different disciplines.

In Recurve men, the gold went to Emilio Lucha from the Polytechnic of Valencia, the avocado to Pablo Bustos from the University of León and the bronze to Agustín Rodríguez from the University of Huelva. In women, Vanesa Berdasco gave the gold to the University of Cantabria, Ángels Alcaraz the silver to Alicante and Elena Larrea the bronze for the University of Valencia.

In the men’s compound Mario Sánchez, from the University of Oviedo, was the gold medal, Pablo Norczyk, from the Polytechnic of Valencia, the silver medal, while Manuel Santos, from the Polytechnic of Madrid closed the podium. In women, Laura Warmuz, from the Polytechnic of Valencia, climbed to the top of the podium, followed by Haizea Telletxea from the University of the Basque Country and María Jesús Rodríguez from La Laguna.

By university teams the gold was for the Polytechnic of Valencia represented by Laura Warmuz, Emilio Lucha and Pablo Norzcik, the silver for the University of Valladolid with Juan Antonio Alonso, Jorge Álvarez and Adrián Maniscalco, and the bronze for Valencia with María Arranz, Elena Larrea and Ruben Prado.

Under the organization of the University of Valladolid and with the collaboration of the Higher Sports Council, the Junta de Castilla y León, Valladolid City Council, after Cross Country, futsal, tennis, horse riding, volleyball and rugby 7, badminton, the swimming, archery as protagonists, UVa, as organizer, will still have the Orienteering tests in Portillo, from May 19 to 21, which will put an end to the CEU’s in Castilla y León and in Valladolid.
