OL dominate PSG in the final of the Women’s French Cup

In the ongoing duel between PSG and OL, the Coupe de France had recently succeeded for the Parisiennes, defending champions in 2022 after eliminating OL in the round of 16 (1-0). For their sixth clash in the final (Paris won only once), it was Lyon who took over, and obtained their 10th title. Norwegian Ada Hegerberg scored twice at the start of the match (13th, 23rd). Ramona Bachmann reduced the mark from the penalty spot (36th), but PSG failed to put the very solid Gones in enough danger. The two teams will meet again next week in a new final, of the Championship this time (Sunday May 21, 9 p.m.).

The game: 2-1

Les Parisiennes never really gave the impression that they were capable of overthrowing a team that was simply stronger than them on Saturday. Whether in technical mastery or physical commitment, OL showed their superiority from the start of the game, and were only pushed around on rare occasions.

The Lyonnaises entered their final perfectly, setting a steady pace. The double of Ada Hegerberg (13th, 23rd) quickly indicated the tone of the meeting. For a few moments, we then believe we see PSG sink, and the memories of the 6-1 in the Championship, in 2021, resurfaced. But a few moments after the second goal, Lindsey Horan’s header hits the bar, and saves PSG. The Parisiennes will take advantage of an avoidable fault by Selma Bacha in the area, to reduce the mark on a penalty by Ramona Bachmann (36th). But apart from the last fifteen minutes of the first period, Lyon did not give up.

The physical domination was felt in the second half and Paris was not very dangerous. Suffering from numerous absences in front (Diani, Katoto ..), PSG did not resist the group of Sonia Bompastor, who allowed themselves to put on the bench Eugénie Le Sommer, Dzsenifer Marozsan or Sara Däbritz. OL are reduced to 10 five minutes from time, with the exclusion of Damaris Egurrola for a second yellow card but nothing helps, the Gones win the Coupe de France. The Norwegian showed all her class again during the final, knocking out the Parisians in the first 20 minutes. For her first goal, she inherited a ball near the surface, which she controlled to hit hard from the left into the small net of Constance Picaud (13th). She offered herself a double ten minutes later. Van de Donk took advantage of an error in Lawrence’s recovery to find Hederberg, who finished with an effective flat foot (23rd). The Norwegian striker is replaced by Eugénie Le Sommer after the hour mark.
