NFL: an escape clause in the contract of Jimmy Garoppolo

An addendum to Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract with the Las Vegas Raiders contains an escape clause in lieu of a medical, multiple outlets report.

The news was first reported by Pro Football Talkthen on social media by NFL Network.

The escape clause relates to a foot injury that required surgery shortly after he signed his 3-year, $72.75 million contract with the Raiders on March 17.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Raiders could terminate the contract for any reason related to the addendum and would not have to pay the $ 22.5 million provided for his base salary. The escape clause would become void if Garoppolo passes a medical or is included in the squad two days after the last game of the 2023 season.

Veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer practiced with the first offensive unit in the team’s most recent practices. The Raiders are also banking on rookie Aidan O’Connell and Chase Garbers in their roster.
