NBA: Police make sure Ja Morant is safe

Tennessee police conducted a security check at the home of Memphis Grizzlies star player Ja Morant following posts on his Instagram account on Wednesday.

Officials told TMZ he had just “taken a break from social media.”

Earlier Wednesday, Morant posted — and then deleted — social media posts and images saying “Love ya ma,” “Love ya pops,” and “You are the greatest little girl. I like you. He then followed up with a message that simply said, “Bye.”

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office told TMZ that officers attended Morant’s home to check on him.

“He’s fine,” the sheriff’s office spokesperson told TMZ.

Morant, 23, has been suspended from all team activities following the posting of a video of him holding a gun that circulated on social media on May 13.

The video appeared during a session Instagram Live on the account of Morant’s friend, Davonte Pack, where the athlete flashing a handgun in a car while rapping a song. The video has been deleted.

Morant left the Grizzlies and entered an aid program in March after video showed him holding a gun while intoxicated at a Denver club when the Grizzlies were in town to play against the Nuggets. He was eventually suspended for eight games after meeting with NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who called Morant’s conduct “irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous.”
