Municipal elections 2023: 4 capitals in the centre-right, two in the centre-left

In the first round Sondrio, Treviso and Latina go to the centre-right, while Brescia and Teramo to the centre-left. In Imperia Scajola is reconfirmed, who has always defined himself as civic. Seven capitals in the ballot, including in Pisa where Conti did not win in the first round by a handful of votes

at municipal elections 2023, of the 13 provincial capitals in which there was a vote, three go to the centre-right, two to the centre-left and one to the civic lists which support Scajola in Imperia. The former minister is supported by the united centre-right but the parties have renounced their symbols. Seven capitals, on the other hand, are heading towards the ballot. The total number of voters who went to the polling stations was 59.03% of those entitled, two percentage points less than the 61.22% of administrative pasts. The ballots are scheduled for May 28 and 29.

Turnout at 59% The turnout for this year’s administrations, as noted by the specialized site YouTrend, holds better in the municipalities where the outgoing mayors are civic. The drop, however, is slightly more marked in the North than in the Center and South. In the North the drop was around 3.2%, while in the Center it was 2.4% and in the South it was 1.7%. Going back in time, in 2017 (1,004 municipalities voting) the turnout was 60.07%. In 2020 (764 municipalities) the turnout was 65.62%; in 2019 (3,685 municipalities) by 67.68%. In the 2016 round, 61.52% of those entitled voted.

ANCONA In Ancona, where the outgoing administration belongs to the centre-left, there is a ballot between the candidate of the centre-right, Daniele Silvetti, and that of the Democratic Party and the Third Pole, Ida Simonella.

BRESCIA Brescia celebrates its first mayor with Laura Castelletti, an expression of the centre-left. The centre-right candidate Fabio Rolfi is under 50%. “This result is the result of the good governance of these ten years. It is a thrill to be the first female mayor of Brescia, satisfaction to have won in the first round. The city has given a clear indication of the way forward”, said Castelletti , celebrating in Piazza della Loggia.

TOASTS In the Apulian city there will be a runoff between the centre-right candidate Pino Marchionna and that of the centre-left (with M5s) Roberto Fusco.

IMPERIA The former minister and outgoing mayor, Claudio Scajola, was reconfirmed as mayor of Imperia with over 62% of the votes.

LATINA Latina, a municipality since October 2022, has chosen the center-right candidate Matilde Celentano, who has outclassed that of the center-left Damiano Coletta.

MASSA Ballot in Massa, where the outgoing mayor Francesco Persiani, supported by Lega, FI and civic lists, is ahead of the candidate of Pd and Alleanza Verdi Sinistra Enzo Ricci. Third was the candidate of FdI, Marco Guidi.

PISA For a small handful of missing votes that did not allow him to pass the fateful threshold of 50% of the preferences plus one, in Pisa the victory in the first round fades for the outgoing center-right mayor Michele Conti, who stopped at 49.96 %. He will go to the ballot with Paolo Martinelli, who obtained 41.12%.

SIENA Ballot also in Siena. Next Anna Ferretti, candidate supported by the Pd and the Italian Left, followed by the centre-right challenger Nicoletta Fabio.

SONDRIO The centre-right candidate Marco Scaramellini obtained 57.86% of the preferences clearly beating the centre-left candidate Simone Del Curto.

Teramo In Teramo victory for Pd-M5s candidate Gianguido D’Alberto with 54.56%.

TERNI Ballot in Terni between Orlando Masselli, center-right candidate, and Stefano Bandecchi, candidate of some civic lists. Center-left and Movimento 5 Stelle out in the first round.

TREVISO Treviso confirms outgoing mayor Mario Conte, center-right candidate.

VICENZA Lastly, there is a ballot in Vicenza where the outgoing mayor, Francesco Rucco (centre-right) with 44.10% must chase the centre-left candidate Giacomo Possamai over 46%.
