With the presence of the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, as well as different members of the Santiago 2023 organizing committee, Mindep signed an agreement with the San Sebastián University for a joint collaboration for the 2023 Pan American Games.

The event was held at the events center of the Ciudad Deportiva of the San Sebastián University, where the agreement was formalized.

The first of the agreements links the USS with Santiago 2023, which implies support with facilities for the preparation of athletes and members of the staff of the organization of one of the most important sporting events in the history of Chile.

Since 2021, the USS has provided classrooms for training judges from different disciplines, based on a Linkage with the Environment project aimed at the inclusion of organizations that bring together people with disabilities through rehabilitation and sport practice.

USS students will also be integrated with internships for different careers, which will be part of the event’s legacy. In addition, the health center will carry out evaluations to certify the degree of visual impairment of the blind international athletes who will participate;

On the other hand, there will also be training of the judges and doping tests and the opening of spaces for the tests of the ceremonies and protocol acts in the Sports City, which will imply a great human and logistical deployment.

The rector of the USS, José Rodríguez, appreciated the agreement, affirming that “for our University it is very significant to sign these agreements with the most important institutions that govern national sports, given that these alliances will materialize concrete spaces of help in the preparation of the training of Chilean athletes”.

He also added that “the doors of our house will always be open to contribute to the generation of references for this country and to the success of those who, with much sacrifice and commitment, proudly wear our colors.”

Athletes benefited

The second agreement is between the USS and the National Sports Institute, which implies a scholarship for 60 athletes who will carry out their preparation in the gym of the Ciudad Deportiva of the university.

Thanks to this alliance, San Sebastián University will be home to the most outstanding specialists in archery, para-archery, Paralympic football, para-tennis, swimming and para-swimming.

This preparation includes scholarships for athletes in the Ciudad Deportiva gym and attention in the medical center. Mainly, they will be Paralympic athletes, taking advantage of the universal access that the venue located at Av. Padre Hurtado 2650 has.

The Minister of Sport, Jaime Pizarro, who was part of a great soccer exhibition with the freestyler Catalina Vega, commented that “today is a good day, because when we have the possibility that the public and private worlds can meet, they can always arise good news”.
