Matas Buzelis, the favorite for the number 1 Draft in 2024, will play in Ignite

Matas Buzelis, projected by ESPN as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, will play in the G League Ignite.

“It’s a dream come true to join Ignite,” said Buzelis. “I have the opportunity to develop in a professional system while I continue to strive to reach my goal of playing in the NBA. I’m looking forward to joining the Henderson team and getting to work. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for preparing me for this opportunity. I also want to thank my family for their endless love and support throughout my journey.”

Buzelis was named the 2023 NBA All-Star Basketball Without Borders MVP in February and competed in the McDonald’s All-American in March. He was also selected for the World Team at the Nike Hoop Summit 2022. His parents played professional basketball in his native Lithuania.

Born in the Chicago area, Buzelis is the son of two former Lithuanian players. The 18-year-old played his high school senior season at Kansas’ Sunrise Christian Academy, where he averaged 15.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks, shooting 53.7% from TC and 43.1% from T3. Buzelis led the team to a 22-8 record and to the Final Four at the GEICO Nationals.

Buzelis joins Thierry Darlan, London Johnson, Dink Pate and Babacar Sane on Ignite’s list as the latest group of top domestic and international prospects preparing for the NBA Draft. Ignite has produced three top-10 NBA Draft picks in the past two years, the most of any program in that span, with Jalen Green (2021, No. 2, Houston Rockets), Jonathan Kuminga (2021, No. 7 , Golden State Warriors) and Dyson Daniels (2022, No. 8, New Orleans Pelicans). Likewise, the total number of players drafted in the last two years from Ignite rises to 6.
