Marc Marquez cleared on appeal

Sanctioned by a double long lap in Portugal, the Spanish driver (Honda) saw his penalty canceled on Tuesday by the International Motorcycling Federation.

Honda rider Marc Marquez will not have to serve the double long lap imposed on him for his crash with Miguel Oliveira in Portugal, the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) announced on Tuesday.

Marquez had last month been granted a reprieve from the penalty imposed on him after the six-time premier class champion locked and crashed head-on into Oliveira, causing both riders to crash in the opener. the season.

Marquez had apologized for his mistake and accepted a double long lap in round two in Argentina, but was later ruled out of the race due to a broken hand which also forced him to forfeit the Spanish Grand Prix, which took place at his home.

The Court of Appeal considered that the sanction imposed on the Spaniard had been served by his non-participation in Argentina.

«Marc Marquez is therefore authorized to participate in the next race in which he can take part, without further sanction.“, FIM said in a statement.

Marquez, who last won his title in 2019, has scored just seven points this season after finishing third in the sprint race in Portugal.

The 30-year-old is aiming for a return at the next round at the French Grand Prix at Le Mans, which will host the 1,000th Grand Prix in history. (Reporting by Rohith Nair in Bengaluru Writing by Toby Davis)
