Netizen Malaysia reacted strongly after Indonesian Hockey National Team won the 2023 SEA Games gold medal by overturning Malaysian hockey, Sunday (7/5).

Malaysia dominates men’s indoor hockey at the SEA Games. The neighboring country team won gold twice, at the 2017 and 2019 SEA Games.

Not only that, Malaysia is also labeled the champion of Asia after winning the 2022 Asian Championship by winning on penalties over Iran.

The defeat of Indonesia, especially through penalties, was like a heavy blow to the Malaysian public. Moreover, Malaysia’s failure to get a gold medal occurred after winning 3-0.

After trailing 0-3, Indonesia scored a goal back through Firdaus Muhammad in the 36th minute. Next, Rahman Ferdian broke into the Malaysian goal in the 38th minute. Only one minute later it was Alfiana Muhammad’s turn to equalize. In the shoutout round, Indonesia won 2-1.

Only getting a silver medal after previously dominating the SEA Games made the Malaysian public react. Malaysian netizens were devastated by the defeat to Indonesia. This can be seen from the upload of the results of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation match on Twitter.

“Malaysia’s hockey tragedy, even though it loses in indoor hockey. If you lose to another country that has been playing hockey for a long time, it’s okay. This is [sama] new country. Rise up, players.”

“Since being coached by Muhammad Dharma Raj, Indonesia has become more and more threatening. It’s a shame that they are already 3-0 up, Indonesia can continue to catch up.”

“Lead 3-0 and lost.”

“But it’s also good to lose, at least it’s not comfortable mastering hockey in ASEAN, open your eyes to be better.”

“I swear dear.”

“Too confident.”
