Korean badminton beats Malaysia… Sudirman Cup finals after 6 years

[OSEN=노진주 기자] Korean badminton succeeded in reaching the final at the 2023 World Mixed Team Championships (Sudirman Cup). It’s been 6 years.

Korea defeated Malaysia 3-1 in the semi-final of the tournament held at the Olympic Sports Center in Suzhou, China on the 20th.

With this, Korea, which secured the silver medal, won the 4th championship in 2017 in this biennial competition, before finishing in the quarterfinals in 2019 and 3rd in 2021. Korea, which succeeded in advancing to the finals after six years, is challenging its fifth championship in its career.

Korea will face off on the 21st with the winner of the semi-final between Japan and China, whose results will be announced tonight.

In the semi-final, Korea got off to a good start. Seo Seung-jae (Army Sports Corps) and Chae Yoo-jeong (Incheon International Airport) won a come-from-behind victory 2-1 in the mixed doubles match.

Jeon Hyeok-jin (Yonex) of the men’s singles knelt 0-2 to Rijigia. However, Ahn Se-yeong (Samsung Life Insurance) defeated Carupateban Letshana 2-0 in the women’s singles that followed, and Korea brought the atmosphere back.

In the men’s doubles match of the fourth match, Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) and Na Seong-seung (Gimpo City Hall) won 2-0, and Korea’s finals were confirmed.
