Judo Worlds: Clarisse Agbégnénou in the final and assured of a medal

Clarisse Agbégnénou will offer herself an eighth world medal. Qualified on Wednesday for the final of the Judo Worlds where she will face Slovenian Andreja Leski, the Frenchwoman is seeking a sixth planetary crown after 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

The double Olympic champion had a difficult journey until the final. After knocking out Serbian Anja Obradovic in the dying seconds of her first lap, she was pushed to the Golden Score by Israeli Gili Sharir and Canadian Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard. In the semi-final, she was able to use all her power to place a devastating ippon against the Austrian Lubjana Piovesana and afford an eighth final at the Judo Worlds. She will therefore offer a fourth medal to France after the silver of Shirine Boukli and the bronze of Walide Khyar and Amandine Buchard.
