Just a few more days of waiting and then the spotlights of the ABHA Arena in Doha will turn on for the Judo World Championships 2023, scheduled from Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 May. The world championship represents the most prestigious and important event of the season, with medals and heavy points up for grabs in view of the Olympic qualification ranking for the Paris 2024 Games.
Italy takes advantage of the maximum quota available from the regulation and will be able to count on a selection made up of 9 men and 9 women, with the aim of equaling or even increasing the tally of two podiums obtained in the last edition of Tashkent 2022. last year it was Christian Parlati and Assunta Scutto who stood out among the Azzurri, respectively taking the silver in the 90 kg and the bronze in the 48 kg around their necks.
In addition to the two judokas just mentioned, the tricolor team lines up other possible intriguing medal cards such as the number one in the world of 78 kg Alice Bellandi, the two-time Olympic medalist of the 52 kg Odette Giuffrida and Manuel Lombardo (fresh from the success in the Grand Slam of Antalya between -73 kg). The program includes two individual categories per day (one for men and one for women) from 7 to 13 May, with the mixed team event which will assign the last title on 14 May.
