José Alvarado enters the disabled list | Sports

Before the game vs. The Toronto Blue Jays on May 10 the Phillies placed left-handed pitcher José Alvarado on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his left elbow.

Alvarado, 27, has converted five of his seven save opportunities this season, while 12 of his 14 appearances have gone scoreless.

From September 13, 2022 to April 18, 2023, he struck out multiple batters in 14 consecutive games (34 SO total), a club record for most consecutive relief appearances with multiple strikeouts.

Originally signed by the Tampa Bay Rays as an amateur free agent on March 13, 2012, Alvarado was acquired by the Phillies in a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers on December 29, 2020.
