It is known when and where the farewell to the legendary Latvian hockey goalkeeper will take place

The farewell to the legendary hockey goalkeeper Mihailas Vasilionoks will take place on Saturday, informs the hockey club “Liepāja”.

Vasilionoks will be taken to Liepaja, in the chapel of Diendi kapu, on May 6 at 13:00.

Vasilionoks passed away last weekend at the age of 74.

In his career as a goalkeeper, Vasilionoks guarded the goals of Riga “Dinamo” for 19 seasons, and was also a member of the USSR national team for five years, participating in the Canada Cup in 1976.

After that, Vasiļonoks continued his work as a goalkeeper coach and was part of the coaching staff of the Latvian national team at three world championships from 2008 to 2010, as well as at the Vancouver Olympic Games. In 2015, he was the goalkeeper coach of the Latvian U-20 men’s national team.

Also, he was the manager of the “Liepājas Metalurgs” unit, but then he held the position of president of the “Liepājas” team.
